When I generate a PDF from Frame, I get a message saying “missing fonts”.
Solution 1
When you open FrameMaker, you get a dialog box that lists the missing fonts. You can do one of the following:
1)Search the document for the font. No, there’s no shortcut for this. You’ll have manually check the paragraph formats, and all format overrides. Search in all the pagetypes – body, master, reference. Find the errant fonts and replace them with what’s available.
2) Buy the fonts and install them on your system:
Settings -> Control Panel -> Fonts then, File -> Install Missing fonts.
Solution 2
This solution is when you don’t want to bother with the missing fonts since your final document shows up fine anyway.
Select File -> Preferences -> General. Ensure that the Remember Missing Font Names box is not checked.
Solution 2
This solution is for a Frame book.
- Open all files in the book.
- Go back to the book screen.
- Select File > Preferences > General, and check the Remember Missing Fonts Names box. (If it is checked, uncheck; if unchecked, check).
- Save all open files and close them.
- Open all the files and repeat Step 4.
- Save all files.
- Update book (without closing any file).
When I generate a Frame book, I get an error message: “Print setting for color black is inconsistent”.

- Select File > Import > Formats.
- In the Import Formats dialog box, clear all boxes but ensure that the Color Definitions box is checked.
- Click Import.

Solution 4
- Open the Windows Explorer.
- Navigate to the folder containing the file.

My Frame book has files with cross-references among themselves. When I generate the book, I get a log of unresolved cross-references but the links in the error log do not lead anywhere in the source file.
- Run a search for ANY cross reference.
- Keep looking at the box that shows the name of the cross-reference source every time you click Next.
- If the source box shows nothing on one of the “Next”s but the cursor has moved, press Delete a couple of times. The best way to do this is to press Delete till such time as the space between two words disappears, and re-enter the space.
- Repeat for the entire document.
- Save the files and update the book.
When I generate a PDF from my Frame book, the PDF generation stops at one particular file and gets aborted.
Solution 1
- Open all the files in the book.
- Ensure that the “Remember missing fonts” box is not checked in any of the files. (Files > Preferences).
- Save all the files and close them.
- Open all the files again.
- Generate the book.
Solution 2
Check the pictures in the truant file. Delete all of them and, if the PDF is generated fine, put back each picture one by one to identify the “bad” picture. Change the picture.
I tried to convert a .FM file to PDF but got the error message “The file extension (.fm) does not match format you want to save”.
Open the FM file, do a “Save As” and, in the box where you enter the filename, delete .fm and type .pdf.
